Chino Planes of Fame

We departed Yorba Linda with some guests from the FAA, Linda Corp and Barbara Keller, filming the departure from Yorba Linda and escorting us to the first stop at Chino. We were met by airport personnel and escorted to the display area. The trucks were moved into position in the museum area and opened for display. A class from a local school came in and began a museum tour, with the culmination being a presentation on the Wright Flyer airplane. Channel 7 news arrived to cover the story. It was broadcast on the evening news according to those we met and talked to the next day. However, the team never saw the coverage. We were on the road. An FAA contact told us it was taped by one of our offices.

Riverside Flabob Airport

On Monday afternoon, the team moved on to Flabob Airport, which was arranged by EAA Chapter 1. A presentation was made to their members and afterwards, the team was given a tour of several interesting hangars to see unique aircraft being built and/or restored.

Team members were a little "stressed out" at D-Day (departure day). There were two locations to visit on that day, a schedule to meet and 90 degree temperatures. Then in late afternoon, we had to drive on to Pomona to get to the next stop - it was a real "humdinger" of a first day on the road.

We arrived in Pomona on Monday evening and took the trucks to a prearranged secure area on the Cal Poly campus to overnight. Finding the hotel proved to be another challenge. We finally checked in at the hotel at about 9:30 pm. (We would soon find that such hours would be a normal day for us.) Once we arrived and checked in, some team members went across the street to grab a bite to eat. Others just headed for their hotel room.
